Majority of Anonymous Tour Pros Surveyed Say Tiger Won’t Break Jack’s Record at the Majors

In a recent Golf Magazine survey of 50 anonymous PGA Tour pros, a majority (74 percent) of responders said that Tiger Woods won’t win the additional five major titles he needs to break Jack Nicklaus’ record.

How many more majors will Tiger win?
ZERO: 6 percent
ONE: 2 percent
TWO: 28 percent
THREE: 18 percent
FOUR: 20 percent
FIVE OR MORE: 26 percent

Woods, 38, has not won a major championship since his dramatic playoff-victory over Rocco Mediate in the 2008 U.S. Open.

Polling also revealed that a surprising number of PGA Tour pros (38 percent) would be “tempted to try” performance-enhancing drugs if they were legal under Tour rules.

If PEDs were legal, would you be tempted to try them?
38 percent: YES
60 percent: NO
2 percent: NO COMMENT

If that number seems high, one pro told us that it should be even higher: “I don’t care what they tell you, literally every guy out here would.”

Finally, Tour pros offered a statistical dead heat on the question of who claims the ‘Best Caddie on Tour’ title.

Other than your own, who’s the best caddie on Tour?
14 percent: Joe LaCava (Tiger Woods)
14 percent: Jim “Bones” Mackay (Phil Mickelson)
12 percent: Paul Tesori (Webb Simpson)
10 percent: Steve Williams (Adam Scott)
8 percent: Mike “Fluff” Cowan (Jim Furyk)
4 percent: Tony Navarro (Gary Woodland)
4 percent: Jimmy Johnson (Steve Stricker)
34 percent: Don’t know / Other

But as one Tour pro reminded us: “The No. 1 player in the world generally has the best caddie.”

Well! They were saying the same thing about his last swing change. He would never win another championship. How do you like Tiger Woods now? We'll see!

Tiger still has plenty of time to get to 19 majors.  A number of guys in their early 40s have won majors recently.  But winning 5 majors won't be easy, that's a couple of hall of fame careers.  We'll see how he does this year.  He proved he's got his game back last year.  With all of the majors at courses he's either won on or played well before, it seems like now is the time.  If he doesn't win one this year, I'll probably become a doubter.

Not with that new swing ... Too any out of control drives still! Unless he just sticks to stingers...

So what if he doesnt, why cant he just be appreciated for the amazing things he has done. Its a different world and a different game. Jack himself has admitted he was not better. If you were to list the records and accomplishnents and percentages, its not close.

I say he has the natural talent to win 2 more.  If they do away with PED testing he will easily break the record.

@si_golf @PGATOUR Disingenuous headline. Bigger story is that 46% think he will still win 4 or more. That's crazy high.

I don't play golf, but I watch it, Tiger has lost that presence he once had. I don't think he will be Jack. There are a number of reasons a) the above b) there are many more good players out there to beat. c) he isn't always consistent with his game.!

If you play golf you know the harder you try the harder the game is. Try to be like Zack J....and lighten up some. Tiger will have a better chance.

No chance, the years of steroid abuse has ruined him.

As much as I know many of you detest Johnny Miller I think he is closest to right about the TW chase...if he wins the Masters he'll give it a good run as he runs out the clock. If he doesn't play well his chances diminish. Miller based that on TW's idea that he "owns" Augusta Natl. If he can't win there he'll have less confidence as he moves on. Who knows if Miller is right, but his idea as a barometer seems to be plausible.

He just needs someone who is strong minded like his dad to keep him on track.

IF he wins one this year... It's over and broken in the next 2 years... #LetsGoWoods

If  he doesn't  win  one  this year, he's likely to never win another  Major again in  his career.    He's getting older, and  his body is "mysteriously" starting to break down.

He will get one this year and then fall into one in his fifties when everyone thinks he's done. 3 more in between is a full career.

He finishes with 16 and 94 tour victories. This total of 110 is never challenged.

And a great number of us anonymous people who are smart enough know that this is an article for people who know nothing about golf or Tiger Woods for that matter!

Tigers never been the same since taking a 9 iron to the head.

Jack played better during the years 32 to 37 than Tiger did.  And over a lifetime, Jack had 18 majors and Tiger 14.  (Do you want to add majors runner up to the equation?) If you want open up "best" to not include lifetime average but a shorter dominating period of time you have to define how short that time can be.  Then there are others to consider:  Bobby Jones, Byron Nelson, Ben Hogan...

@The Computer Store Owner

Jack played in 154 majors and won 18...

Jack played in 588 PGA tour events and won 73 (12.4%)...

Consecutive cuts made: 105

Tiger has played 71 Majors and won 14...

Tiger played in 290 PGA tour events and won 79 (27.2%)...

Consecutive cuts made: 142

Hey Computer Store Owner, you a fool to even think of comparing the two.  Don't ever go there!
